All of our teachers know their material; they all have advanced degrees in their field and have taught for years. Sure, 1+1 = 2, but math is at its core a FUN exploration full of puzzles, exciting logic, and connections to the world around us. Our teachers all have experience teaching math classes, working with grades 1-12 children and sharing how fun math is.
We use the Art of Problem Solving books (here is a sample evaluation) along with material that we have developed ourselves and taught for grades 1-12. We love reaching anybody interested in math and start off with a personal assessment to help us place you in an appropriate level math class.
Our classes are small, up to 15 students (with a few exceptions). Your child's education is a team effort. Through our learning management system you will know week-to-week what your child is working on and what her/his homework is. Children and their families can review each lesson and have a central place to submit homework and ask for help. Homework is never "busy work" but is meaningful and interesting.
We are delighted to work with families but we are not shy to recommend other schools, companies, and tutors.
Maybe our schedule doesn't fit your needs or maybe we feel another organization can better serve you. We are much more interested in helping you to find outstanding and fun educational resources than necessarily admitting your child to our programs.
We have designed a half million dollar facility about three miles from interstate 40 in the eastern part of Chapel Hill, NC. Designed by a team of architects and interior designers, spaces are inspired by recent mathematical discoveries like the Einstein Hat.
We are very close to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods Market in Chapel Hill.
The Chapel Hill Public Library, several coffeeshops, and stores and restaurants are also nearby, and downtown Chapel Hill and Carrboro are not far.
